RAC Update – 8/14/2006
The masons from Price Masonry continue to excavate trenches in the cellar and underpin sections of the foundation that have ductwork passing under them. Currently they are working on the northern wall of the period I house. Preparations are also being made to start excavating the HVAC bunker, which should begin this week.
Keith has finished laying the new heart pine floors in the closet. The flooring is matchless and the same can be said of the workmanship.
M-112 (Nelly’s Dining Room)
Steve continues to lay the new heart pine floors in the dining room.
M-004 (Wine Cellar)
A joist that had been headed off in order to install a duPont era heating grate in the northeastern corner of the Drawing Room has been replaced.
Mark Gooch continues to fabricate thresholds for the doorways between M-004/M-005 and M-008/M-009.
All of the king post trusses for the principal roof have been replaced and only the eastern truss in the portico remains unrestored.
Mac has completed the decking on the portico and it is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship.
The lighting protection system (solid copper wire attached to rods anchored to the chimneys) is being installed.
The re-installation of the Red Room started several weeks ago. The new flooring has been laid, approximately half of the built-in seats/shelves have been assembled and the masons Wayne Mays and Ray Cannetti are currently working on re-installing the fireplace surround and hearth.
