The Madison grade is also being re-established on the east elevation in preparation for moving the handicap access ramp to the rear colonnade. Having the ramp on east elevation will allow the handicap ramp on the western façade to be removed and everyone is looking forward to seeing the mansion’s main elevation cleared of modern intrusions.
The generator for the Mansion’s electrical, HVAC and security systems has also been installed.
A Mason Using a Darby to Level the Brown Coat in M-212 (Southwest Chamber)
Scratch coat and brown coat plaster are being applied below the chair rails in M-211 (southeastern bedroom) and M-212 (southwestern bedroom). Brown coat is also being applied to the walls of M-201 (large bedroom) and a finish coat has been troweled onto the walls in M-208 (passage chamber).
M-009 (Nelly’s Kitchen)
The masons are preparing to lay the brick paving in this kitchen. A running bond pattern will be used (instead of the herringbone found in Dolley’s kitchen). Evidence for this bond pattern was found archaeologically and it indicates that this kitchen, which was used by Madison’s widowed mother, had a slightly lower status then Dolley’s kitchen.

Bill Bichell Holding the Re-used Section of Architrave
Bill Bichell has started to prepare and install the architraves for the windows. Amazingly, one of the original ca. 1812 architraves for this room was recently discovered among the Madison trim work that the duPont’s reused during their 1901 renovations.
Keith Forry is also restoring the flooring found in the windows’ and doorway’s splayed jambs. New heart pine patches, which will match the original Madison flooring, are being used. The original Madison flooring was removed in 1901 when the duPonts infilled the doorway with brick.
M-200 (Small Bedroom)
Ed Gomez is finishing the installation of the surbase and baseboard. The Whitehaven sandstone hearth for this room is still being quarried in England and so the chimney piece has been temporarily installed
M-205 (Upper North Passage)
Mac Cutting a Tenon for a Newel
Mac Ward is installing the last two newel posts, including the first floor newel, and the blocking for the stair’s paneling.
Austin Antrim continues to install the cornice.
