A summary of the evidence collected from fragments of the Montpelier Portico that were found archaeologically. Dr. Susan Buck undertook two rounds of investigation on the fragments and found evidence for multiple generations of whitewashing campaigns, providing evidence that the columns were whitewashed during Madison’s lifetime. An appendix with Buck’s analysis reports is included.
